A Community No More

Jairo Fuentes Epaiyu, is a man who lives in the village of Tamaquito, Colombia - where the coal industry effected and destroyed his community. The coal industry overtook the community and created an open pit mine right in the middle of his tribe – which caused major topsoil destruction. Sadly, his tribe could no longer plant food, and drink the water because the pits overflowed their reservoirs – which in the end contaminated their drinking water.

However, not only did the coal industry overtake the community, ruin their soil, contaminate their water, but actually destroyed the communities ability to go to a local hospital or communicate with the outside world -  because the nearest town was destroyed by the same coal company to make room for another open pit mine.
